Santa Cruz State Lifeguard Association

The Santa Cruz State Lifeguard Association is dedicated to supporting the professional development and well-being of California State Lifeguards while promoting ocean safety, lifesaving excellence, and community education. Through advocacy, outreach, and stewardship, we strengthen the connection between our beaches, lifeguards, and the public we serve.

Who Are We?

The Santa Cruz State Lifeguard Association (SCSLA) is a non-profit organization run by a volunteer board of active California State Parks Lifeguards based in the Santa Cruz District. Our membership includes a dedicated network of current and former State Lifeguards and other State Parks employees, all unified by a commitment to public safety, coastal stewardship, and lifesaving professionalism.

We exist to support our lifeguards both on and off duty by providing funding, advocacy, and resources that promote safety, training, wellness, and leadership. We are also proud to support the Santa Cruz State Junior Lifeguard Program, helping to educate and inspire the next generation of ocean stewards and lifesavers.

The goal of the Santa Cruz State Lifeguard Association is to promote water safety, education, and improve professional lifeguard standards and morale as it pertains to its execution in the California State Parks.

The Sandman Triathlon is one of Santa Cruz County's longest-running triathlons. The inaugural race was way back in 1985, during the infancy of the sport.

The Junior Lifeguard Program emphasizes: Teamwork, Leadership, and Aquatic Safety while introducing young people to aquatic recreational and professional opportunities.
